Dogs
for Adoption
Last
updated January 20, 2012
How we prepare our dogs for adoption All
of
our dogs have gone through the ASPCA
Meet Your Match Canine-ality
assessment in addition to the Assess a Pet and SAFER behavior
evaluations.
To
find
the "canine-ality" of each dog, we
administer five assessments,
including friendliness, playfulness, energy level, motivation and
drive. Based on their results, our dogs are then placed in one of nine,
color-coded categories: Purple (Couch Potato, Constant Companion,
Teacher's Pet), Orange (Wallflower, Goofball, Busy Bee) and Green (Free
Spirit, Life of the Party, Go-Getter). When you come to our shelter,
you'll fill out a survey that will tell you which color (purple,
orange, green) of dog would be your best match!
CARE
volunteers,
during
their routine shift at the shelter, teach the shelter dogs gracious,
polite
behavior so when they go out in the real world they will impress
everyone they
meet. Obedience
methods learned from
Wendy DeCarlo and Dennis Damon of Dog
Obedience
Group are used
exclusively. We
highly recommend that our
dogs
continue
with Dog Obedience Group to ensure a seamless transition into their new
home. The
dogs also receive veterinary examinations and vaccinations. All medical
records will be provided as part of the adoption process. If you are interested in adopting, please carefully read through our adoption procedures page for information about the adoption process, adoption hours, adoption fees, and directions to the shelter. | C.A.R.E. Dog Owner's Manual

Naomi
Shepherd/Terrier Mix, 1 year old, Spayed female.
Just
look at my inquisitive face! I'm a real character with lots
of love to give. I am a pup without a lot of real life experiences to
draw on. I'm sensitive (sometimes fearful) but willing and able to
learn. I'll need to be exposed to world experiences on a daily
basis to build my confidence. Obedience training will help me form good
manners and allow us bonding time. I have so much potential, but we
will need to work together to get there. It can be a fun project
for both of us!

Canine-ality™ Assessment rating: Green / Life of the Party

Rose
Lab/Terrier Mix, 1.5 years old, Spayed female.
I
am a big girl and not afraid to announce it! It might be a
squirrel in the yard or a worrisome noise that gets my attention, I
will let you know in a very big way. You want to play? Bring it on! I
wrestle, bark, spin, play bow, and chew on you with great gusto and
enthusiasm. But I also take treats gently, lay down for tummy rubs and
can be very shy and appeasing at times, too. I do like to please
and learn and have all the makings to be a well rounded, pleasant
companion. It will just take some patience from you and most likely a
little forgiveness when I get too excited. But I'm sure once we both
attend positive obedience classes my emotional growth and maturity will
amaze everyone.
ASPCA
Canine-ality™ Assessment rating: Green / Life of the Party
Adoption
Information:

Barney Beagle, 8 years old, Neutered male.
I
am gentle and loving and a bit of a worrier so I tend to talk a lot.
Besides sharing my feelings by talking I must let you know all that is
going on in the world. Sights, sounds, and Oh those smells! Did I
mention that I am a beagle? I love to be with you and hate to be
alone. I will sit on your lap or hang out on a soft place, just
as long as you are near. My favorite word is walk! Any time, any day,
in all weather, I'm ready to go with you and a reliable leash. I am an
agreeable guy that needs little training but I do need solid
companionship on a daily basis and all my senses need to be exposed to
the riches of life.
ASPCA
Canine-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Goof Ball
Adoption
Information:
Small size / weighs 25 lbs.
No children under 6. I do get overwhelmed if there is too much activity and excitement.
No Cats.
Barney should be adopted to a family in a house - no apartments or condos due to his vocal nature.

Dog Obedience Group training is recommended.
Barney needs little if any house training. He is neutered, microchipped and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
Please come to the shelter to meet Barney and speak to an adoption counselor for more information about him. Thank you. |

Durango Shepherd/Terrier Mix, 5 months old, Neutered male.
WOO-
HOO! Fast and furious is how I live. Life is all about me and it
is all mine. Toys, fleece, rawhide, socks, wires, shoes, pants,
fingers, legs, and toes. So many things to do and people to meet. You,
your friends, your friends friends, etc. I am so busy and alert,
listening, watching and controlling every thing that I see. I am so
confident and smart that I skipped right past puppyhood and went
straight to being an adult, I am quite serious about life, every
day is an adventure. Jump on board and get ready to blast off.

Whoopie Pie
Domestic
Shorthair, 10 months old, Black and White, Neutered male.
FeLV+

I'm eligible for Zucchini's Gift reduced adoption fee.
I
wandered on to the porch of a C.A.R.E. volunteer and she was nice
enough to rescue me and to get me out of the cold. Unfortunately in my
routine medical testing, I came up positive for Feline Leukemia,
so I am looking for an extra special home and an angel who is willing
to rescue me and give me a fighting chance. I am a little bit timid, so
a nice, quiet home where I can slowly come out of my shell would be
ideal. If you are looking to rescue a cat who really needs a home, please
come meet me!
Adoption
Information:
Whoopie Pie should be the only cat in the home due to his Feline Leukemia positive status or should go to a home with other FeLV+ cats.
No children under 12 due to his timid personality.
A
quiet, stress-free, cat-experienced home would be perfect for Whoopie
Pie. The ideal home would be with a Veterinary Technician or other
medical professional who is accustomed to monitoring health or someone
who is really looking to rescue a cat and make a difference! Most other
shelters euthanize Feline Leukemia positive cats because they are so
hard to find homes for, however we feel that it is in his best interest
to give him a chance to live out as much life as he can.
Whoopie Pie is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Whoopie Pie and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about him. Thank you.

Astra
Domestic Longhair, 1 year old, Orange Tabby, Neutered male.
I
was found in the catnip patch behind the animal shelter. I know where
the good stuff is! I have a good nose and get aroused by smells and I'm
playful and spunky. I love all kinds of toys, but especially balls that
I can chase and wand toys that I can swat. I'm not too crazy about
being held, but I'll let you know if you I want you to let me off your
lap for some more active playtime.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Executive
Adoption
Information:
We're not sure how Astra feels about other cats, but he will play with cat-friendly dogs.
No children under 12.
Astra is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Astra and speak to an adoption counselor

Liquorice
Domestic
Shorthair, 3 - 5 years old, Black, Spayed female, front declawed.

I'm eligible for Zucchini's Gift reduced adoption fee.
I
was left in a carrier in the PetSmart parking lot and luckily someone
investigated and found me inside! I am initially shy in new
surroundings, but once I get comfortable I can be affectionate. I love
to roll around on my back with my belly up in the air and I'll purr up
a storm when you pet me. I can get moody and will swat if things aren't
going the way I like, so you need to look into my beautiful green eyes
and heed my signals. I also love to play with feather toys and will
stalk and leap my prey.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Sidekick
Adoption
Information:
Liquorice does not like other cats and would probably do best in a home without dogs.
No children under 12.
Liquorice
would do best in a home with experienced owners. She can be affectionate
at times, but also can be quirky and hissy/swatty. A house with minimal
stress factors would be best.
Liquorice is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Liquorice and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about her. Thank you.

I
am a sweet orange cream puff who was found as a stray. I love being
brushed and I have a very friendly disposition. I am a big talker with
a loud MEOW and I love to give feedback. I like to investigate my
surroundings for a bit, then I'll settle down to turn my attention to
you!
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Sidekick
Adoption

Amy
Domestic Shorthair, 3 years old, Calico, Spayed female.
I
am a very friendly kitty with beautiful markings. I love to be petted,
especially head scratches! I'm a favorite of several of the volunteers,
so they are rooting for me to get a new home quickly! I am playful and
love Cat Charmer type toys. When I've had enough play time, I'll
let you know and then we can just hang out together.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Love Bug
Adoption
Information:
We are not sure how Amy feels about other cats or dogs.
No children under 8.
Amy is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.

Chris
Domestic Shorthair, 1 year old, Black, Neutered male.
I
have a super glossy black coat and enjoy being petted. I looooove
catnip. Especially that fancy cosmic kind! I need time to adapt to new
environments, but once I do, I am Mr. Fun Guy. I like to play a little
rough, so I need someone who can read my signs and help me to calm
down. I am one cool black panther, so come on by the shelter to meet me.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Secret Admirer
Adoption
Information:
Chris has lived with other cats. We are not sure how he feels about dogs.
No children.
Chris would do best in a home that has had cats before.
Chris is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
Please come to the shelter to meet Chris and speak to an adoption counselor for more information about him. Thank you

Angie
Domestic
Shorthair, 7 years old, Tortoiseshell/Calico mix, Spayed female.
I
didn't get along with the other kitty in the home, so I am looking for
a new place where I can have you all to myself. I'm the only cat you'll
need, anyway! I love lap and cuddle time and I'll sit on your lap
for a while, so grab a book and let's relax! I can be quite opinionated
and talkative and if you do something that I don't appreciate (like
trying to pet my tummy) I'll let you know that I don't like it! I can
get startled by loud noises, but will come to you for reassurance. Come
see me at the shelter and let's spend some quality time together!
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Sidekick
Adoption
Information:
Angie does not get along with other cats.
Angie could go to a home with respectful children over 10.
Angie is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.

for more information about her. Thank you. |

Alex Domestic Shorthair, 3 - 6 years old, Black, Neutered male.

I'm eligible for Zucchini's Gift reduced adoption fee.
I
was abandoned at the shelter, so I'm a bit scared and confused as to
how I ended up here. I spend most of my time hiding in my carrier or
behind it if I can get there. The volunteers are hoping that someone
with a big heart and previous experience with shy cats will rescue me.
Will you be my angel and give me a chance?
Adoption
Information:
We are not sure how Alex feels about other cats or dogs.
Alex should go to a cat-experienced owner in an adults only and quiet home.
Alex is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Alex and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about him. Thank you.

Olivia
Domestic Shorthair, 3 - 5 years old, Tortoiseshell, Spayed female.
I
was abandoned at the shelter with five other cats and I am ready for
someone to take a chance on me. I am terrified at the shelter and need
to find a quiet place to become more comfortable. I do settle a bit
when things quiet down and a nice person talks sweetly to me. That's
what I'm hoping for in my next home. Please come rescue me!
Adoption
Information:
Olivia has lived with other cats. We are not sure how she feels about dogs.
Adults only home. A quiet home with an experienced or patient owner would be best for Olivia.
Olivia is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Olivia and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about her. Thank you.

Socks
Domestic Shorthair, 4 years old, Black and White Tuxedo, Neutered male.

I'm eligible for Zucchini's Gift reduced adoption fee.
I
came back to the shelter after being out in a home for a while. I am
much heavier than when I left, so I could use some help to slowly get
my weight back down. I know you have been meaning to lose some weight,
too, so maybe we can do it together? I tend to be shy, but once I get
to know you I will be friendly and vocal and will cuddle. I did scratch the furniture in my previous home, so I'll need good scratching posts and someone to spend time training me on the proper places to scratch! It might take
me a little while to get used to a new home, so please give me a chance.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Private Investigator
Adoption
Information:
Socks has lived with other cats and gets along with them.
No children under 12.
Socks has allergies to certain kitty litters - only use Feline Pine or Yesterday's news.
Socks
will need appropriate places to scratch and will require some training
to learn to use the posts. Please see this article for some great
advice: http://www.declawing.com/htmls/article.htm
Socks needs to slowly lose weight, so encouragement to play and measured food will be necessary.
Socks is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Socks and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about him. Thank you.
