You
can now see some of our available animals on WGN Noon News!
If you are
looking for a
specific breed that you don't see listed here, or are not in our area,
try http://www.petfinder.com/
to search on breed, age, size, temperament and more near your zip code!
Most large shelters, smaller organizations and breed rescue groups list
their animals on Petfinder, so it's a great centralized place to do a
pet search. You may be able to save one of the millions of
animals that are euthanized for lack of homes each year.
Dogs
for Adoption
Last
updated January 31, 2010
All
of
our dogs have gone through the ASPCA
Meet Your Match Canine-ality
assessment in addition to the Assess a Pet and SAFER behavior
evaluations.
To
find
the "canine-ality" of each dog, we
administer five assessments,
including friendliness, playfulness, energy level, motivation and
drive. Based on their results, our dogs are then placed in one of nine,
color-coded categories: Purple (Couch Potato, Constant Companion,
Teacher's Pet), Orange (Wallflower, Goofball, Busy Bee) and Green (Free
Spirit, Life of the Party, Go-Getter). When you come to our shelter,
you'll fill out a survey that will tell you which color (purple,
orange, green) of dog would be your best match!
CARE
volunteers,
during
their routine shift at the shelter, teach the shelter dogs gracious,
polite
behavior so when they go out in the real world they will impress
everyone they
meet. Obedience
methods learned from
Wendy DeCarlo and Dennis Damon of Dog
Obedience
Group are used
exclusively. We
highly recommend that our
dogs
continue
with Dog Obedience Group to ensure a seamless transition into their new
home.

Puppies
We
sometimes have puppies available that
are
not on this list. Our puppies are usually kept in foster homes until
they ready to come to your home. Please call or stop by the shelter

hours to speak to an adoption

Mimi
Domestic
Shorthair, 10 years old, Calico, Spayed female.
You
may think I have the feisty calico personality at first, but it's just
because people I've never met before (and vacuum cleaners) scare me a
little! Maybe if I pretend, you'll think I'm a tough kitty. Really,
it's an act, and I'm a very sweet girl who loves to have my head
scratched. Right between the ears! I am looking for a quiet forever
home with a soft, comfy bed for me to curl up on! If you are patient
and give me some time to warm up, I'll be your favorite snuggly couch
companion!
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Private Investigator.
Adoption
Information:
Mimi
has lived with other cats in the past. We don't know how she feels
about dogs.
No
children under 12 years old.
Mimi
needs an experience owner with a quiet home.
She
should be fed CD multicare food only.
Mimi
is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and

Augusta
Domestic
Longhair, 3 years old, Brown Tabby, Spayed female.
Augusta is currently in a foster home.
I
was found as a stray, and at 3 years old, I've become pretty
independant and used to fending for myself. I am not used to being
around people yet, and am not really sure how to react to toys or what
petting is all about! So I need a patient person who is willing to coax
me out of my shell and teach me how wonderful a quiet, comfortable home
can be. That's all I really want, anyway! Don't give up on me, I know
we can figure this out together!
Adoption
Information:
Augusta
should be in a home without any children.
She
needs an experienced owner as she is a nervous cat. Her first reaction
to new things is to be suspicious and growly.
Augusta
is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Augusta and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about her. Thank you.

Ludwig
Domestic
Shorthair, 1 - 3 years old, Black and White Tuxedo, Neutered male.
I'm
all dressed up in my best tuxedo and ready to go home with you! I'm a
calm, mellow cat and would fit best a quiet home with lots of warm
spots to snuggle in, including your lap! No need to run around and play
like a kitten when all I really want is to hang out with you!
Sometimes, I get a little vocal when I'm uncomfortable or in a new
situation, but a little bit of attention will help me settle down.
Please come take me home and I'll help you appreciate the finer things
of cat life, like naps in warm sunbeams!
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Sidekick
Adoption
Information:
No
children under 10 years old.
We
don't know how Ludwig feels about dogs and other cats.

for more information about him. Thank you.

Pascha
Domestic
Shorthair, 5 years old, Grey Tabby, Spayed female.
I
am a sweet and outgoing girl who would love to tell you all about
what's on my mind! I need a little space to feel secure in a new
environment and I may seem cautious at first. But with a little time
and patience, I will fit right into your home! I love attention,
especially scratches on my head, but too much at once is a bit
overwhelming for me. I like other cats and would enjoy a furry friend.
Or if you want to give all your love to me, that's OK too! I can't wait
for you to take me home so I can get settled and find my favorite warm
spots to nap in!
Adoption
Information:
Pascha
is okay with cats. We don't know how she feels about dogs.
She
should be in a home without any children.
Pascha

Morgan
Domestic
Shorthair, 8 years old, Brown Tabby, Spayed female.
After
losing my person when she had to move into a nursing home without me, I
needed to hold on to whatever I could call my own. So, I may be a
little protective of the little space that I call home and my favorite
toys and blankets because I just can't imagine losing them again! No
wonder I'm so particular about how I like things and how I interact
with people. I need to feel in charge, but I know that the right person
will give me a forever home where I can relax and let my sweet nature
shine through.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Private Investigator.
Adoption
Information:
Morgan
should be the only pet in an adults only home with prior experience
with cats.
She
needs a tall-sided litter box and seems to like "crystal" litter the
best.
Morgan
is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Morgan and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about her. Thank you.

Mystic
Domestic Shorthair, 7 - 10 years old, Gray Tabby, Spayed female.
Hi, I'm Mystic! Can I join you and sit in your lap? I love being with people and sitting in people's laps and getting attention from people! People are the best! I would love to find a forever home with people who are around a lot so I can tell them all about my day and hear all about theirs! My previous owners were moving away and weren't home as much as I would have liked. Maybe you will be a perfect match and let me provide the furriness you're missing in your life!

Luna
Domestic
Shorthair, 7 years old, Brown Tabby, Spayed female.
All
I need is a favorite snuggle spot and some gentle pets from my person,
and I'm a happy kitty! I love to be brushed since it keeps my coat
healthy and beautiful, but my legs and paws are a little sensitive. I
am looking for a forever home with a person who understands that my
quiet demeanor means I prefer a relaxed and comfortable home. But I may
need some encouragement to get the exercise I really need, and
catnip-filled socks are my favorite toy. Please give me a chance, and I
will be your faithful companion. We can cozy up together on the couch
and make these chilly evenings a little warmer!
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Private Investigator.
Adoption
Information:
Luna
is okay with other cats. We don't know how she feels about dogs.
No

Pilgrim
Domestic Shorthair, 9 months old, Brown Tabby, Neutered male.
If you're looking for an active, playful cat that's full of energy, I'm your cat! A happy cat is a tired cat, as I like to say, so I am looking for a person who is ready to find lots of ways to expend my energy! I have too much fun to sit still for long, and curling up in a lap isn't my favorite way to spend my time. I love all kinds of toys, but when I'm wound up, I go all out! I haven't been taught boundaries with people when I'm playing, so I can get a little aggressive for inexperienced cat owners. I will fit in best with an active family that will entertain my playful drive and help me stay out of trouble!
ASPCA Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Secret Admirer.
Adoption Information:
Okay with energetic cats. We don't know how he feels about dogs.
No children under 13 years old.
Pilgrim needs an experienced owner and an extremely boisterous cat playmate since he is an aggressive player.
Pilgrim is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
Please come to the shelter to meet Pilgrim and speak to an adoption counselor for more information about him. Thank you.

Botanica
Domestic
Shorthair, 1 year old, Brown Tabby, Spayed female.
I
really like people and am looking for a new home. In fact, I was found
in the garden behind the shelter waiting to come in so you could find
me here! I can be a shy girl, and when I first meet you I may be
scared. But once I get to know you more, we can have lots of fun
together. I love playing with toys, feathers and ribbons. After
playtime is over, I may even let you stroke my soft silky fur! I am
usually very sweet, but if I get too much attention I can get
overwhelmed and a little feisty. Are you an understanding person who
can give me a forever home?
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Secret Admirer.
Adoption
Information:
Botanica
needs an experienced owner.
No
children under 12 years old.
Botanica's
mood can change from sweet to feisty when she has had enough attention.
Botanica
is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Botanica and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about her. Thank you.

Sora
Domestic Shorthair, 1 1/2 years old, White and Brown Tabby, Spayed female.
Hey there. What are you up to? I'm definitely curious and interested in what you're doing, but not so sure I want to join in yet. I'll just watch you from here for now, then decide if I want to help out. I was given up by my previous owners who could not keep me, so I tend to be a little shy at first. It may take me a minute to warm up to you, but I love my head scritched. Give me a good head rub, and I'll be your sweet, adorable little companion!
ASPCA Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Secret Admirer.
Adoption Information:
We don't know how Sora feels about dogs or other cats.
No children under 12 years old.
Sora is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
Please come to the shelter to meet Sora and speak to an adoption counselor for more information about her. Thank you.
