Dogs
for Adoption
Last
updated May 10, 2012
How we prepare our dogs for adoption All
of
our dogs have gone through the ASPCA
Meet Your Match Canine-ality
assessment in addition to the Assess a Pet and SAFER behavior
evaluations.
To
find
the "canine-ality" of each dog, we
administer five assessments,
including friendliness, playfulness, energy level, motivation and
drive. Based on their results, our dogs are then placed in one of nine,
color-coded categories: Purple (Couch Potato, Constant Companion,
Teacher's Pet), Orange (Wallflower, Goofball, Busy Bee) and Green (Free
Spirit, Life of the Party, Go-Getter). When you come to our shelter,
you'll fill out a survey that will tell you which color (purple,
orange, green) of dog would be your best match!
CARE
volunteers,
during
their routine shift at the shelter, teach the shelter dogs gracious,
polite
behavior so when they go out in the real world they will impress
everyone they
meet. Obedience
methods learned from
Wendy DeCarlo and Dennis Damon of Dog
Obedience
Group are used
exclusively. We
highly recommend that our
dogs
continue
with Dog Obedience Group to ensure a seamless transition into their new
home. The
dogs also receive veterinary examinations and vaccinations. All medical
records will be provided as part of the adoption process. If you are interested in adopting, please carefully read through our adoption procedures page for information about the adoption process, adoption hours, adoption fees, and directions to the shelter. | C.A.R.E. Dog Owner's Manual

Schmidt
Terrier Mix, 1 year old, Neutered male.
I
am a soft hearted and kind dog that wants to get along with
everyone. I love obedience training it is so easy, because
the people have to do most of the work! I understand
the wonderful way it opens doors to being with people and exploring the
world together. Through my training (i.e. learning manners ) I am
polished and easy going. Since I am young in spirit, there are times
I will need some patience from you, so I can think things
out. I am ready, willing and able to get out there and see the
the world in a very friendly and agreeable way. Did I mention that at
times I do like to slow down to stop and smell the flowers, really what

Whoopie Pie
Domestic
Shorthair, 1 year old, Black and White, Neutered male.
FeLV+

I'm eligible for Zucchini's Gift reduced adoption fee.
I
wandered on to the porch of a C.A.R.E. volunteer and she was nice
enough to rescue me and to get me out of the cold. Unfortunately in my
routine medical testing, I came up positive for Feline Leukemia,
so I am looking for an extra special home and an angel who is willing
to rescue me and give me a fighting chance. I am a little bit timid, so
a nice, quiet home where I can slowly come out of my shell would be
ideal. If you are looking to rescue a cat who really needs a home, please
come meet me!
Adoption
Information:
Whoopie Pie should be the only cat in the home due to his Feline Leukemia positive status or should go to a home with other FeLV+ cats.
No children under 12 due to his timid personality.
A
quiet, stress-free, cat-experienced home would be perfect for Whoopie
Pie. The ideal home would be with a Veterinary Technician or other
medical professional who is accustomed to monitoring health or someone
who is really looking to rescue a cat and make a difference! Most other
shelters euthanize Feline Leukemia positive cats because they are so
hard to find homes for, however we feel that it is in his best interest
to give him a chance to live out as much life as he can.
Whoopie Pie is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and
vaccines.
Please
come to the shelter to meet Whoopie Pie and speak to an adoption counselor
for more information about him. Thank you.

down. I am one cool black panther, so come on by the shelter to meet me.

Maisha
Domestic
Shorthair, 3 - 4 years old, Black, Spayed female.
Hello
there! Are you looking for a silky, sassy, bright-eyed exotic lady to
spice up your life? Then you'll want to come meet me! I like to talk a
lot and tell you exactly what I'm thinking. And I'll comment on
everything you're doing, too. I love to hang out in high places so I
can keep an eye on whatever it is that you're up to and so I can keep
my little treasures to myself (mousies, sparkleballs, my favorite
blanket). I'd rather hang out with you than to play. Oh, and I want you
all to myself. I really don't like other kitties and that's why I ended

Truman
Domestic
Shorthair, 2 years old, Black, Neutered male.
I'm
a real ladies man. I was found hanging around with a couple of blonde
girl kittens, so I've got some stories to tell over our next beer.
Actually, I'm really a softy and I like attention and affection and
quiet cuddle time. I get a little nervous in new situations, but once I
know the lay of the land, I'll make the place mine. Please come meet me
and you'll fall in love with my charm.
ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple/Secret Admirer

Information:
Truman could go to a home with other cats and possibly with dogs.

Alex
Currently in foster care, but still looking for a home!
Domestic Shorthair, 3 - 6 years old, Black, Neutered male.

I'm eligible for Zucchini's Gift reduced adoption fee.
I
was abandoned at the shelter, so I'm a bit scared and confused as to
how I ended up here. I initially spent a lot of time hiding in the back
of my cage, but now I've learned to trust again and will come to the
front of the cage to give kisses to the volunteers. I hope that someone
with a big heart and previous experience with shy cats will rescue me.
Will you be my angel and give me a chance?
Adoption
Information:
We are not sure how Alex feels about other cats or dogs.
Alex should go to a cat-experienced owner in an adults only and quiet home.

Suzuki and Scooter
Suzuki: Domestic Shorthair, 7 years old, Torbie, Spayed female.
Scooter: Domestic Shorthair, 7 years old, Grey Tabby, Spayed female.
Our
owner moved to a smaller home and could not keep us. I'm Suzuki and I
am very playful (love that Cat Charmer) and I enjoy being petted. My
sis, Scooter, is a little bit more on the shy side, but she likes
people and she'll curl up with you once she becomes comfortable. We
like to curl up together and we'd like to go to a home where we can
stay together. Oh, we're afraid of the vacuum cleaner, so we don't mind
if you don't run it very often! (We know, you wanted an excuse not to
clean!)
Suzuki: ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Personal Assistant
Scooter: ASPCA
Feline-ality™ Assessment rating: Purple / Private Investigator

Marco
Domestic Shorthair, 2 years old, Orange and White, Neutered male.
I
am a tough guy who was out on the streets. Actually, I wasn't doing so
great and came in with some scratches and scars, so I'm happy to be in
a place where I get good meals and proper cuddles. I love to play with
all kinds of macho toys, like birds (feather wands), fur mice, and any
kind of ball. I like people, but I have to keep up that tough guy
exterior, so I'd prefer chill with you like a bro until I get to know
you better.Oh, and I had a tail injury previously, so don't touch me
near my heinie! Want to hang out on the couch and watch the game with a
brewski? I'm your dude!

Angie
Domestic
Shorthair, 7 years old, Tortoiseshell/Calico mix, Spayed female.
I
didn't get along with the other kitty in the home, so I am looking for
a new place where I can have you all to myself. I'm the only cat you'll
need, anyway! I love lap and cuddle time and I'll sit on your lap
for a while, so grab a book and let's relax! I can be quite opinionated
and talkative and if you do something that I don't appreciate (like
trying to pet my tummy) I'll let you know that I don't like it! I can
get startled by loud noises, but will come to you for reassurance. Come
see me at the shelter and let's spend some quality time together!
