Best Friends Adoption Program: June 1 - 30, 2016

C.A.R.E. is partnering with Best Friends to help find more homes for homeless animals. Select cats and dogs will be eligible for a reduced adoption fee of only $10 per pet from June 1 to June 30.

These pets include:

Agatha
Domestic Shorthair, 6 years old, Brown Tabby, Spayed female.
I'm really scared to be in a new place. I tend to hiss now and then, but it doesn't mean much. I need a human who can be really patient with me, because I need time to feel comfortable and safe. I'm not a lovey-dovey cat, but I'll hang out with you once I relax. I prefer a quiet home without a lot of surprises. Will you help me come out of my shell and rejoin the world?

Adoption Information:
Children: No
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Unknown
Agatha is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.

Jake and Wrigley
Jake: Domestic Shorthair, 6 years old, Grey, Neutered male
Wrigley: Domestic Shorthair, 5 years old, Brown Tabby, Neutered male
We are a pair of bonded brothers who would love to stay together and find someone who will love us both. We are playful, affectionate and chatty. Jake is the big brother (at 19 lbs) and he's on a wet food diet to lose some weight (dry food only as treat).  Jake used to be able to go outside, so he'll want lots of playtime so he can still feel like a big hunter. He likes to sit in the window and watch the birds. He knows his name and will come when called. Wrigley is active and bouncy and likes to jump up to high places. He has big round eyes that look deep into your soul. He will be on bug patrol and will take care of any spiders or flies for you. The two boys like to cuddle and groom each other. Won't you give these two great cats a home?

Adoption Information:
Jake and Wrigley are a bonded pair and must be adopted together.
Children:
Older, cat experienced
Cats: Yes, with proper introduction
Dogs: Unknown
Special Diet: Jake is on a wet food diet to lose weight

Cassidy_041216_a.jpg

Mater and Cassidy
Mater: Maine Coon, 9 years old, Brown Tabby, Neutered male.
Cassidy: Domestic Shorthair, 8 years old, Brown Tabby, Neutered male.

We are a bonded pair of friendly, adult kitties who will fit easily into your home to make us an instant family! Our previous family had some health issues and couldn't keep us, even though they loved us. We're looking for a home where we can stay together because we love each other so much. We are both very social, but Mater takes a bit longer to adjust to new situations. Cassidy could stand to lose a little weight, but he likes to play so it should be easy to get him to exercise. Please contact C.A.R.E. if you'd like to meet us!

Adoption Information:
Children: Older, cat experienced
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Yes
Mater and Cassidy
are microchipped, neutered, and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.

Pete
Domestic Shorthair, 2 years old, Orange Tabby with White, Neutered male.
I am strong and stocky with a fearless attitude. Full of confidence, I strut through the house with my tail high...life is all about me. I will gladly play with any moving toy, even when the three dogs in my foster home are watching in wonderment. I love to hang out with people and follow them around, keeping an eye on them and investigating EVERYTHING they do. The only time I hide is when I play hide and seek with my canine friends. (Dogs are so easy to fool! ) Wise beyond my years, I talk when there is a need and I cuddle only when I feel like it. I like to be where you are, but will rarely get in your way. I am good company who demands little as long as you allow me my space.

Adoption Information:
Pete would do best in an adult only home with experienced cat owners. Pete would be great for someone who wants to keep him busy through clicker training or structured play daily. He needs a dog playmate to burn off some of his energy.
Children:
No, Pete can be too strong when playing.
Cats: No, Pete can be too overpowering for other cats.
Dogs: Yes, loves dogs so Pete should have a dog pal in his new home.
Pete is microchipped, neutered, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.

Tiara
Domestic Shorthair, 1 year old, Tortoiseshell, Spayed female.
I'm a petite lady at only 5.5 lbs, but I make up for my small size with a huge heart and spunk. I love cuddling and spending time with people and I'll even let my foster mom hold me like a baby. I crave human affection so much that I don't like to be left alone for very long. The ideal home would be someone who is home a lot or works from home so I can have companionship and interactive play whenever I need it. I get along great with dogs so I'd love to live with a dog. I can be a pest to other cats so I should be the only cat in the home. Contact C.A.R.E. if you'd like to meet the sweetest kittyaround!

Adoption Information:
Tiara would do best in a cat experienced home with someone who is ready to play with her several times a day.
Children:
No
Cats: No
Dogs: Yes, she would do best in a home with a dog playmate.
Tiara is microchipped, spayed, and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.

Albert
SPECIAL NEEDS
Toy Poodle, 8 years old, Neutered male

Hard times for my previous family meant they could no longer take care of me. When they turned me over to Chicago Animal Care & Control, my beautiful poodle coat was dirty and matted. Then I was rescued by C.A.R.E.! Now that I’ve come home from the groomer I am a handsome fellow once again. I love attention from everyone I meet. I haven’t learned any obedience commands yet but I’m a quick study. I had a bunch of bad teeth from poor diet that the vet pulled. I have a loose kneecap that causes me to run on three legs sometimes, but I get around fine. I also have a heart murmur but none of that stops me!  Will you be my angel and give me a fairy tale ending?

Adoption Information:
Size: Small / weighs 4.5 lbs.
Children: Older, respectful
Dogs: No, would do best as only dog
Cats: No, he barks at them
Grooming: Albert will require grooming every 6 to 8 weeks at a cost of about $40 per visit
Housebroken: Yes, crate-trained and uses potty pads
Medical:
Because Albert's early diet was not very good, he has bad teeth. The vet pulled the worst ones. Albert has a luxating patella (loose kneecap) that will cause him to use three legs sometimes. Albert also has a heart murmur, which may require future medication. His senior blood panel was good.
Albert is neutered, microchipped and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.

If you are interested in more information or would like to meet Albert, please fill out our online adoption survey to have us contact you:

Clyde
American Staffordshire Terrier Mix, 1.5 years old, Neutered male.
I’m a smart, energetic boy who’s ready to learn. When I hear things new to me, I bark to sound the alert—and my hearing is really good, which means I would do better in a house than an apartment. (My foster mom discovered that a citronella collar helps calm me down.) I love meeting and playing with other dogs, and I know I’ll be a star student when I go to dog obedience classes. Despite my energy, I settle down nicely when I’m in my crate. Won’t you come meet me soon?

Adoption Information:
Size: Large / weighs 54 lbs.
Children: Older, experienced
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Housebroken: Yes, and crate-trained
Obedience:
Attendance in D.O.G. Obedience classes is required.
Clyde is neutered, microchipped and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
